"All the leaves are brown and the skies are gray" . . . because we he heard the sad news that Denny Doherty of The Mamas and the Papas passed away yesterday in his native Canada at 66 years of age. (That's him on the far left.)
This leaves "Mama" Michelle Phillips as the last member standing of the short-lived but legendary super 60s quartet.
It's Denny's incredibly golden voice that carried most of the band's tunes and while everyone is mentioning "California Dreamin" today (yes, I know it's an amazing tune), I chose to play "Dancing Bear" again and again in memorium.
May God, Buddha or whomever you choose speed you, Denny! John and Cass are waiting and I'm sure they have some great tunes for you to sing on that great big stage in the sky.
